It was a disappointing end to the season for our U21s losing out by one point to Granemore in the final of the Intermediate Championship, 2 – 9 to 2 – 8, on Saturday evening.
The Shanes got off to a flying start with Greg McCabe firing two great early points before Matthew Girvan went close for his side when his low shot flew inches past the post. Granemore then replied with the first point before a Mark McCabe free put the Shanes two ahead again. Another free, this time from Greg McCabe, stretched the Shanes advantage to three but two pointed frees from Granemore had them back to within one. The sides then swapped points with Matthew Girvan on target for the Camlough side and the same player was on the score-sheet minutes later when some great combination play between Michael McParland and Eamon McCabe put Girvan through on goal but his goal-bound effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar. Three pointed frees, two of which were extremely debateable, in closing minutes of the half saw Granemore go into the break one point to the good, 0 – 7 to 0 – 6.
It was a cagey opening to the second-half and there was almost eight minutes on the clock before Mark McCabe pointed the opening score to bring the Shanes level. Granemore restored their one point advantage soon after before two goals in less than five minutes saw them lead by seven. A rare Shanes free, which was pointed by Mark McCabe, left the Camlough side six in arrears before a great ball from Ryan Quinn saw Mark McCabe rise highest to flick the ball to the net and bring his side back to within three. With the game entering injury time the Shanes poured forward in search of the equalising score and when Oisin O’Callaghan was upended in the square Greg McCabe stepped up to coolly finish the resulting penalty to the Granemore net and tie the game at 2 – 8 apiece. However Granemore mounted one last attack and with virtually the last kick of the game they fired over the winning point because when the Shanes keeper took the resulting kick out the referee sounded the final whistle and with it the hopes of a second successive U21 title for the Shanes.
Everyone at the club would like to congratulate the efforts of all the lads over the past few months and the commitment and hard work of their management team, David Muckian, Mick Mackin and Peter O’Brien.
Senior Ladies
Now that the dust is beginning to settle on our All-Ireland adventure the club would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped to make it possible - to the clubs and businesses who provided the girls with training and injury recovery facilities, to the physios who were available at the drop of a hat, to the local media and photographers whose coverage of the girls was first class, to the individuals, clubs and businesses who sponsored a player and bought good luck signs, to the sponsors of food on numerous occasions, to the Hughes Family for the sponsorship of the All-Ireland strip, to the Carrickdale Hotel for their generosity on the day of the final, to Raymond Tumilty and the team in O'Neill's, to the many well-wishers on social media, from near and far, whose messages of support were greatly appreciated by everyone, to all the anonymous sponsors (you know who you are), to Armagh Ladies GAA and Ulster Ladies GAA, and to everyone else who contributed in any way at all - your support and generosity is deeply appreciated by all at the club. I have probably forgotten to include someone in this and if I have it is totally unintentional but please take this as a note of our deep gratitude.
As special word of thanks must go to the parents of all the players whose support and commitment throughout the year has been unbelievable and to all the supporters who attended all the games and made themselves loud and proud when cheering the girls on.
Finally on behalf of everyone associated with the club I would like to congratulate Peter Lynch, Caoibhe Sloan, their backroom team and the entire senior ladies panel of players for providing us with an unbelievable year....thanks for the memories.
U10s
Training for the U10s continues this Thursday evening in St Paul’s school from 7.00pm – 8.00pm.
U8s
Training for the U8s continues this Thursday evening in St Paul’s school from 6.00pm – 7.00pm.
U6s
Training for U6s continues every Wednesday evening at 6.00pm in Bessbrook Community Centre. All boys and girls at this age group are welcome to attend.
Meabh O’Neill’s Camogie
Training for all age groups has now moved indoors for the winter and will take place every Tuesday evening in St Paul's school sports hall from 6.00pm – 7.00pm.
AGM
The clubs Annual General Meeting will take place in the clubhouse on Sunday 8th January at 3.00pm. This is undoubtedly the most important meeting of the year and we are asking all current and past members, players (past and present), parents of our underage footballers and anyone else with a genuine interest in the club to come along.

Thank- You
The club would like to thank the Camlough Community Association for inviting our Senior Ladies to turn on the Christmas lights in the village on Friday night.
Gaelic Life All-Stars
The Gaelic Life Ulster Club All Star awards night takes place on Friday, 13th January in the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan.
Our senior ladies featured heavily with seven players being nominated with three being chosen –Shauna Grey, Aoife McCoy and AimeeMackin. The awards night features men's and ladies football, hurling and camogie. At present we have almost three tables of players/supporters attending and if any other player or family/club members etc wish to attend, could they please contact Yasmin Mackin as soon as possible. This is a black tie affair and tickets cost £60 each, although discounts are available for group bookings for tables of 8 or 10.
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 15, 19, 27 & 29. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x lucky dip winner. The jackpot now stands at £4650.
