Shane O'Neill's Club Notes 17th October 2016

Senior Ladies

Our senior ladies are through to the Ulster Intermediate Championship final following a very hard fought win over Monaghan champions Truagh on a score-line of 6 – 5 to 1 – 11.

Playing against a strong wind in the first-half the Shane’s got off to a dream start with Aoife McCoy netting in the opening minute before a long range effort from Shauna Grey crept over the keeper’s head and into the net and the Shane’s found themselves six to the good. Aimee Mackin tagged on another point before Truagh registered their first point of the contest but this was quickly cancelled out by another Mackin point. The Shanes led by seven at this stage but Truagh hit the next four points to leave just three between them but great work from Aoife McCoy found Aimee Mackin in space in front of goal and she made no mistake from close range. The same player was on target minutes later with another well taken point and to restore her side’s seven point advantage. Truagh then hit a bit of purple patch, scoring 1 – 3 without reply to get themselves right back into the game and, but for an excellent save from Shane’s keeper Katie Daly the Monaghan girls could have gone in at half-time in front. However it was the Shane’s who went into the half-time interval with a narrow one point lead, 3 – 3 to 1 – 8.

Just like the first-half the Shane’s made an excellent start to the second when Moya Feehan was on the end of a flowing move to stylishly finish the ball to the Truagh net and increase her side’s advantage. A further two points from the boot of Aimee Mackin kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Shane’s but Truagh kept themselves well in the hunt with their ninth point of the contest to leave just five between them. A period of sustained Shane’s pressure ended with Aoibheann Jones dispatching the ball low into the Truagh net to all but seal the win for the Camlough side. To their credit Truagh didn’t drop their heads and they scored the next two points but with almost the last kick of the game a Blaithin Mackin shot made its way to the Truagh net to leave the final score 6 -5 to 1 – 11 in favour of the Shane’s.

This was a game in which the Shane’s had to dig deep and grind out a result against a very good Truagh side but credit to all the girls who played with great heart and determination to set up an Ulster Final tie against Fermanagh side Kinawley. The game is scheduled to take place on Sunday 30th October but the venue is still unknown.

Senior Men

Our senior men travelled to Middletown on Sunday afternoon for their final league game of 2016 and despite some terrible conditions both sides played out entertaining but hard fought draw.

U10s

Training for the U10s will continue every Thursday evening in St Paul’s school from 7.00pm – 8.00pm.

U8s

Training for the U8s will continue every Thursday evening in St Paul’s school from 6.00pm – 7.00pm.

U6s

Training for U6s continues every Wednesday evening at 6.00pm in Bessbrook Community Centre. All boys and girls at this age group are welcome to attend.

Meabh O’Neill’s Camogie

Training for age groups has now moved indoors for the winter and will take place very Tuesday evening in St Paul’s school sports hall from 6.00 - 7.00pm.

The camogie club’s AGM will take place in the Shanes club-house on Monday, 24th October 7.30pm sharp. For anyone wishing to take up position in the committee your nomination must be received two weeks before AGM. Please contact Sandra Smith on 07599640444 for more information.

The prize-giving night for the Meabh O’Neill’s camogie club will take place on Friday, 18th November at 7.30pm. 

Bucket Collection

On Saturday our senior ladies held a very successful bucket collection in aid of their Ulster Club Championship fund. We would like to thank everyone who helped out on Saturday in what were atrocious weather conditions. We would also thank to thank everyone who contributed to collection.

Shane’s Shoot-Out Darts Classic

The club is hosting a darts classic on Sunday 13th November with a total of £300 prize money on offer. Entry fee £10 per person….registration at 2.00pm with throwing starting at 3.00pm. Everyone welcome.

Lotto

Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 6, 9, 13 & 16. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x match three winner. The jackpot now stands at £4250.
