Our senior men maintained their 100% start to the season with a three-point win away to Keady on Sunday, 3 – 7 to 0 – 13.
A decent first-half from the Shanes saw them lead by five at the break, 1 – 6 to 0 – 4, the goal coming from Paul O’Rourke direct from a free whilst and the point scorers were David McCabe (0 – 2) with Paul O’Rourke, Mark McCabe, Connaire Mackin and Conal O’Brien getting one apiece. A slack first fifteen minutes of the second-half from the Shane’s saw their opponents draw level. The Shane’s then woke from their slumber and scored a quick-fire goal and point, the goal coming from Micheál Brady and the point from Paul O’Rourke to put them four ahead again, but a stubborn Keady hit the next two points to keep them firmly in the game. The Shane’s hit their third goal of the game with second-half substitute Oisín O’Callaghan finding the net to give his side a five-point advantage with Keady replying with the last two points of the game but the Camlough side held on to claim the win, 3 – 7 to 0 – 13.
Great credit most go the Shane’s for their commitment and discipline throughout the seventy-seven minutes of the game to keep their 100% start to league intact. The only down side to the day was a nasty head injury sustained by Ryan Quinn.
Next up for the senior men is a home game against Middletown on Thursday evening before another home game against Mullaghbawn next Sunday.
Senior Ladies
Due to the unavailability of a number of county minors and a couple of players through injury it was a depleted senior ladies side which took on Lisummon on Saturday night. Despite putting in a decent performance the Shane’s lost out by six points, 3 – 13 to 3 – 7. The girls led by two at the break but two sin-bins during the second-half didn’t help their cause. They return to training on Tuesday night from 7.00pm – 8.30pm before a home game against Silverbridge next Saturday.
Minor Boys
The minor boys have a re-fixture at home on Monday night against Wolfe Tones. The game throws-in at 7.15pm and all players are asked to meet at the club no later than 6.30pm.
Minor Girls
Training for the minor girls continues on Tuesday evening from 7.00pm – 8.30pm.
U16 Boys
Our U16 boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankins lost out to a very good Naomh Eoin side on Thursday night.
U16 Girls
Our U16 girls have no game this week but will continue to train on Saturday afternoon from 4.00pm – 5.00pm.
U14 Boys
Our U14 boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankins were involved in high-scoring and entertaining game against St Pauls on Tuesday but unfortunately, they lost out by a few scores.
U14 Girls
Our U14 girls have a game on Wednesday away to Clann Eireann at 7.15pm.
U12 Boys
Our U12 boys were in action on Saturday afternoon but they lost out to a very good Crossmaglen side.
U12 Girls
Last Sunday U12 girls put in a great display of football but unfortunately lost out to a very strong Killeavy side. Well done to all the girls from both teams. The girls were back in action against Mullaghbawn on Sunday evening but the result was unknown at the time of going to press. Training continues Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7.00pm – 8.00pm in preparation for another game at home to Dromintee next Sunday.
U10s
It was an extremely busy week for our U1 footballers. On Tuesday night, they travelled to Corrinshego before travelling to Dorsey on Wednesday night. The young Shane’s enjoyed entertaining games on both nights and showed some great footballing ability and effort. They were back in action on Saturday when they travelled to An Ríocht to take part in the Down club’s annual tournament. After competing in a tough group containing Clann Eireann, An Ríocht, Bryansford and St Johns the Shane’s to face Fintona in the last 16 of the shield. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be for the youngsters and they fell to a narrow defeat. Training continues every Tuesday and Friday evening from 6.00 – 7.00pm with a match scheduled for Wednesday evening away to Whitecross at 7.00pm.
U6s
Our U6s continue to train on Wednesday evenings from 6.00pm – 7.00pm in Bessbrook Community Centre.
Meabh O’Neill’s Camogie
Camogie training continues as normal this week with the senior camogs having a game away to An Port Mor on Wednesday night.
Best Wishes
Best wishes to our U16 footballer Lewis Boswell who suffered a couple of broken bones in his arm during the U16 game last week. Get well soon Lewis and we hope to see you back in the Shane's jersey in the near future.

Well Done
Well done to Sinead McDonnell who was part of the Armagh U14 ladies team which beat Donegal in the Ulster B final on Saturday. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for the Armagh minor ladies, including our own Kirsty Murphy, Sorcha McDonnell, Blaithin Mackin, Ciara Jones and Ellen Hannaway, who lost out to Tyrone in the Ulster A final.
Divisional Cup Winners
Well done to our darts team who won the Divisional Cup on Friday night, defeating local rivals Slieve Gherkin 5 – 4 in the final. The game was tied at 4 each before team captain Peter Lynch stood up to the oche to claim the win for the Shanes. The winning team on the night was: Peter McKeown, Ciaran Mackin, Gareth McLoughlin, Paul O’Neill, Noel McTaggart, Kevin Barry, Mick Mackin, Nathan Morgan and Pater Lynch.
Thank-You
The club would like to thank those who spent a couple of hours cleaning up around the club on Friday evening, it was greatly appreciated.
Club Merchandise
There will be club socks on sale in the club on Monday night, 22 May from 8.00pm. Sizes 12 – 2 and 2 – 4 will cost £6.00 whilst size 4 – 7 will cost £7.00. The socks will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 9, 12, 20 & 31. There was no jackpot winner and 1 x match three winner. The jackpot now stands at a very impressive £5,700.
Siúl at the Shane's
As most of you know we ran a very successful Pave the Way scheme last year which led to the installation of a brilliant concrete driveway in and around the club. To everyone who donated to that scheme we are extremely grateful and a sign will be erected shortly thanking you all. The next phase of development at the club has now been completed and has the seen construction of a first-class Community Walkway around our main pitch. As with all development work it costs money and this is where you, our friends and members, can help out. Siúl at the Shane's is a scheme where, even though the walkway has been completed, people can still donate to or sponsor a metre of concrete as we attempt to raise the necessary funds for the new walkway. The walkway itself will be available for use by the whole community and will give people the opportunity to walk in a safe and friendly environment all year round.
