U10 Blitz

The club held a very successful U10 blitz on Saturday, with twenty-two teams and over two hundred players, boys and girls, taking part. The tournament saw teams from Armagh, Down, Monaghan and Tyrone taking part.

After a couple of hours of group games and cup, shield and plate quarter-finals and semi-finals, six teams were left standing. Shane O’Neills and An Port Mor made it through to the plate final, Killeavy and Wolfe Tones got through to the shield final whilst Clann Eireann and Galbally Pearses contested the cup decider. All three games, like a lot of the games before them, were all keenly contested with all the young footballers playing some great football and showing off some of their skills. When the final whistles sounded in the finals Shane O’Neill’s were the plate winners, Killeavy triumphed in the shield whilst Galbally Pearses overcame a decent Clann Eireann side to claim the cup.

The club would like to thank all the teams who participated in the competition and helped to make it a great success. We would also like to thank everyone who organised the event and helped out on the day – referees, umpires, score keepers, tea and sandwich makers, Garreth O’Shea for providing the burgers and the burger-makers – your help was greatly appreciated.

Senior Men

Our senior men returned to league action on Sunday afternoon with an away game against An Port Mor. At the time of writing the notes the exact score was unknown but after a closely fought affair the Shanes lost out narrowly by two points.

Senior Ladies

This coming Wednesday, 6th July, our senior ladies host Killeavy in the Intermediate championship first round with a 7.30pm throw-in. The players have been training hard since January and all support on Wednesday is appreciated.

Minor Boys

Our minor boys recorded a narrow but fully deserved one point win over Cullyhanna last Monday night, 4 – 9 to 2 – 14. It was a game of two halves with the Shanes completely bossing the opening period to lead by twelve at the break but Cullyhanna were a different team in the second-half but despite their best efforts it was the Shanes who held on to claim the win.

U16 Girls

The U16 girls are playing away in the Division 1 League to Carrickcruppen this Monday 4th July at 7.00pm and all players are asked to meet in Carrickcruppen at 6.20pm. There will be no training on Tuesday this week.

U10s

Our U10s travelled to Corrinshego last Wednesday evening and a very good game was played by both sides with plenty of enjoyable football on show.

On Saturday we had our own U10 blitz in the club grounds which saw the Shanes placed in a tough group alongside Whitecross , Saval , Belleek ,Clann Eireann and Maghery. In sometimes horrible weather conditions all the kids played with great spirit and after the group games were completed the Shanes progressed to the plate knock out stages. The first game saw the Shanes take on Redmond O’Hanlons and it proved to be a very tight game all the way through, but the young Shanes team came out victorious and progressed to the final. An Port Mor were the opponents in the final and our U10s produced their best performance of the day. They played with great determination and produced some exciting football and scores to win the plate. Every member of the squad played their part during the day and the management would like to thank them for all their efforts.

Training continues on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 6.00pm at the field.

U8s

Training continues every Tuesday and Friday evening at 6.00pm at the field. There is a possibility of two games for the U8s this week and management will keep everyone informed.

Meabh O’Neill’s Camogie

Well done to the U12 camogs who remain unbeaten after securing a draw against a very good Tullysaran in tough conditions on Saturday.

Tickets for the event are also available from any committee member and are priced at £10.00 or €12.00. As this will be a major fundraising venture for the club we are asking all club members to get involved and make it a huge success.
