Our senior men were scheduled to play Middletown in their final league game of the season on Wednesday night but the game has postponed with confirmed date yet for the re-fixture.
Senior Ladies
Following last week’s championship semi-final win our senior ladies are going to prepare for the final of the championship against Sarsfields on Sunday 28th August in the Atheltic Grounds. The club is running a bus on the day for all supporters, especially for all our underage girls and boys teams, accompanied by adult mentors. The bus costs £5 per person and will leave from Shanes at 12.30pm. Seats can be booked through any underage team manager or by calling 07876453546.
Congratulations also to the senior girls who recently entered a LGFA/Lidl sponsored competition depicting what their team and club means to the players. The entry consisted of a letter, poem and short video and it proved to be the winning Armagh entry, netting a prize of €1000 – well done girls.
Minor Boys
Our minor boys are in championship action tomorrow night, Monday 8th August at home to Clann Eireann. All players are asked to meet at the club at 6.00pm.
U16 Girls
There is no training for U16 girls this week but they do have a league re-fixture on Thursday night, 11th August away to Clan Na Gael at 7.00pm. Al players are asked to meet at the club at 6.00pm.
U14 Girls
Our U14 girls were in action on Thursday at home to Silverbridge and they put in brilliant display of attacking football to claim a fully deserved win.
U10 Girls
On Sunday our U10 girls had their first outing together as a team this year, when they travelled to Killeavy to take part in their U10 tournament. After all our group games had been played the girls had picked up a total six points which saw them progress to the semi-final of the plate. Killeavy were the opposition in a game that was played in very windy conditions but the girls put in fine 1st and 2nd half performances that seen them emerge victorious and through to the final and a game against near neighbours Carrickcruppen. After a bit of a slow start in the blustery conditions, the girls started playing some of their best football of the day and this, along with their effort and great attitude was rewarded at the full-time whistle with the young Shanes girls claiming the win and the plate title. The managers would like to congratulate the girls on their achievement, which was made all the more special as it was the first time the girls had played together as a team. Training continues every Tuesday and Friday at the field at 6.00pm and all new girls are welcome to come along.
U10s
Clady were the visitors to Camlough on Tuesday evening with both sets of players putting on a great display of football. It is great to see the youngsters out enjoying their football and developing with every game. Training continues every Tuesday and Friday at 6.00pm at the field and all new players are welcome to along and join in.
U8s
On Wednesday evening our u8s travelled to Dromintee with both teams playing out an enjoyable game, with all our players getting plenty of game time which they enjoyed thoroughly. The U8s were on the road again on Saturday evening to Silverbridge and on a fine evening for football the Shanes fielded two teams to play the hosts. All the youngsters played some great football and it’s great to see them all developing and enjoying themselves with the more game time they get. Training continues every Tuesday and Friday at 6.00pm at the field and all new players are welcome to along and join in.
The Qube
Last Friday night saw the official launch The Qube fundraiser in the club with a number of contestants trying out a few games from the event itself. If Friday night is anything to go by there will be a few competitors who will fair OK on the night but for the others…well the least said the better.
The Qube is just one of the events planned between Thursday 18th August and Sunday 21st August:
Thursday 18th August: Community Underage Disco (age 12 and below) from 7.00pm – 10.00pm. Free admission with minerals and crisps on sale
Friday 19th August: Shanes Summer Blow-Out Disco (over 18s) from 9.30pm – 1.30am. Tickets are priced at £7.00
Saturday 20th August: The Qube. Tickets are priced at £10.00 or €12.00
Sunday 21st August: An evening music session with local group Village Folk
The week-end of events is a major undertaking for the club and we are appealing to all club members, parents, players and friends of the club to get involved and to help out in any way they can to help ensure that week-end runs as smooth as possible.
Tickets for the Shanes Summer Blow-Out Disco (in conjunction with the Myeloma Charity) and The Qube (in conjunction with The Fight On Campaign for Séanín) are available from any committee member. We will also be going around the doors on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th of August selling tickets for The Qube. Anyone available to lend a hand is asked to meet at the club on the Friday night at 7.30 or 5.00pm on the Saturday.
Anyone who sold tickets is asked to return the money to the club no later than next Monday 15th August and the same for anyone who has any unsold tickets to return.
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 8, 22, 27 & 29. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x lucky dip winner. The jackpot now stands at £3,750.
