Next Sunday, May 14th the Shane O'Neill’s club will be hosting an evening barbecue for all players, families and coaches associated with our underage teams across all codes, boys and girls football and camogie. We extend a warm welcome especially to new players and parents to come along and enjoy a relaxing social occasion, meeting and getting to know our underage coaches and many other families and club members.
There will be plenty of burgers and refreshments available, with entertainment and fun games for all our young players. The barbecue begins at 6.00pm, immediately after our U12 girls game against Killeavy. We are looking forward to seeing everyone, new and not so new, coming along to what should be a very enjoyable evening.
Senior Men
Our senior men travelled to St Pauls on Sunday afternoon and recorded another great away win, defeating the home side on a score-line of 3 – 12 to 0 – 6.
St Paul’s opened the scoring with a close range pointed free which was cancelled out soon after by a point from Paul O’Rourke. Two points in as many minutes edged St Paul’s ahead with David McCabe replying for the Shane’s with a well taken point before Greg McCabe put his side in front when he drove at the St Paul’s defence before rifling the ball to the back of the net. A pointed free from Paul O’Rourke gave his side a three-point lead but St Paul’s reduced the deficit to just one with the next two points of the game. A free from David McCabe put the Shane’s two in front again before a great long range point from Connaire Mackin gave his side a three-point half-time advantage.
A point in the opening minute of the second-half saw St Paul’s get back to within two but this proved to be their one and only score of the second period as the Shane’s took total control of the contest. Three points on the trot from Paul O’Rourke (2) and Connaire Mackin put the Camlough side five points in front before Greg McCabe rose highest to flick the ball to the net for his and his side’s second goal of the game. The game remained scoreless for the next ten minutes before the Shane’s hit a real purple patch, scoring 1-4 in the closing minutes to seal the all-important win, the scores coming from Paul O’Rourke (1 – 1) and the McCabe trio of David, Ryan and Greg getting a point apiece.
Whilst the Shanes’s racked up an impressive scoring total of 3 – 12 great credit must go their defensive unit who restricted their opponents to a total of six points, with just one of them coming in the second-half.
Next up for the senior men is a home game against Eire Og next Sunday.
Senior Ladies
It was a mixed week for our senior ladies, losing out to a very good Clann Eireann side mid-week before It was a mixed week for our senior ladies, losing out to a very good Clann Eireann side mid-week before returning to winning ways on Saturday evening with an emphatic win over Killeavy. The game was nip and tuck in the opening ten minutes before the Shane’s stepped up a gear and went into the break with a fourteen-point advantage. The Shane’s ladies continued to boss proceedings in the second-half scoring a further 7 – 6 to Killeavy’s 1 – 2 and run out comfortable winners. The girls will be training in St Paul’s on Tuesday evening at 7.00pm.
Minor Boys
Our minor boys return to action on Monday night away to Granemore at 7.15pm. All players are asked to meet at the club for 6.15pm and all available lifts would be greatly appreciated.
Minor Girls
The minor girls were scheduled to play Clann Eireann last Thursday evening but the game was postponed and re-fixed for Thursday 25th May. The girls do have a match this Thursday evening, 11th May at home to Silverbridge.
U16 Boys
A great performance from our U16 boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankins saw them earn a fully deserved draw against Keady on Thursday evening, Keady 2-10 Patrick Rankins 3-7. In fact, the lads were unlucky not to claim the win as Keady scored a last-minute goal to draw the game. The U16 boys will be training on Thursday evening and all Shane’s lads are asked to meet at the club at 5.40pm.
U16 Girls
It was disappointment for our U16 girls last Monday night losing out to near neighbours Carrickcruppen in their latest league game. It was also a bad night for Orlaith McArdle who suffered a broken finger and we wish her a speedy recovery. The girls are back in action on Monday night at home to Armagh Harps at 7.00pm.
U14 Boys
Our U14 boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankin’s have a home game against Tullysaran on Tuesday evening with a throw-in time of 7.00pm.
U14 Girls
Our U14 girls are scheduled to be action at home on Wednesday evening.
U12 Boys
Our U12 boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankin’s travelled to An Ríocht on Saturday and fielded two teams in the competition. Both sets of players on both teams played some great football throughout the day with one of them narrowly losing out in the quarter-final of the cup competition.
U12 Girls
Our U12 girls were in action late on Sunday evening and the result of the game was unknown at the time of going to press. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.00pm at the field.
U10s
Our U10s travelled to Dromintee on Wednesday evening. We fielded two teams with all our boys and girls enjoying plenty of football and a word of thanks to Dromintee for hosting us. This week’s fixture is still to be confirmed but training continues every Tuesday and Friday 6.00pm – 7.00pm.
U10 Girls
Training for the U10 girls continues on Saturday mornings at 11.00am at the field.
U6s
Training for our U6s continues every Wednesday evening from 6.00pm – 7.00pm in Bessbrook Community Centre and all boys and girls are welcome to attend.
Weekly Fixtures
We have had several requests to publish the weekly fixtures, home and away, for all our teams - senior men, senior ladies, senior camogs, underage boys, underage girls and underage camogs.
On that basis could all managers please forward their weekly fixtures to Damien (Dee) Beattie either by PM via Facebook, email (deebt@hotmail.co.uk) or text (07733405769) no later than 7.00pm on a Sunday evening. Some of you may already have a list of all your fixtures – so you can send this to Dee. Dee will put together a list of fixtures (home and away) for the coming week for all age groups, in all codes which will then be published on our Facebook page.
This approach will make everyone aware of all weekly fixtures, home and away, and your co-operation would be greatly appreciated.
Sport NI Coaches
Thomas McStravick from Sport NI visited the club on Friday night to take a coaching session with our U10 footballers. Thomas, along with other Sport NI coaches, will be working with various teams throughout the club. The children and club coaches were delighted with the training session on Friday and are looking forward to future training sessions with Thomas and the other Sport NI coaches.
Well Done
Well done to Jarleth Lennon, Oisin Lennon, Ruairi O'Brien, Keegan Grant and Jamie Beattie who were all part of the St Paul's team which won the Irish News Cup last week.

Congratulations to our younger members who made their Holy Communion at the weekend. We hope they all enjoyed their day.
Happy Birthday
A big happy birthday this week to our long-serving and esteemed club member Oliver Doran who celebrated his 70th birthday at the week-end.
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 2, 13, 25 & 31. There was no jackpot winner and 1 x match three winner. The jackpot now stands at a very impressive £5,600.
Condolences
The club would like to offer its sympathy to the family of Sean Canavan, late of Derrybeg.
Mr Canavan was the grandfather of our U12 & U14 player Molly Canavan. May he rest in peace.

Cairde Sheáin Uí Néill
We are planning on increasing the membership of our Cairde Sheáin Uí Néill scheme over the coming weeks and months and following up with current members. Membership of the scheme costs only £10.00 per month and will contribute enormously to future development around the club. Thanks to the contribution of our current Cairde members we have been able to upgrade the playing surface of our main field and construct a new training area beside the clubhouse and concrete the driveway around the club. We still have plans to construct a new spectator area and other works around the club and we would like everyone associated with the club to be part of all future development and are encouraging people to become a Cairde Sheáin Uí Néill member.
