Our senior men recorded an impressive five-point win away to Middletown on Friday night, 2 – 10 to 0 – 11.
Middletown took the lead right from the throw-in with the opening point but Ryan McCabe replied almost immediately for the Shane’s before a great long-range effort from Ciaran Mackin put the Shane’s ahead. A pointed free brought Middletown level but another great effort form Mackin restored the Shane’s lead only for Middletown to respond almost immediately to tie the game again at three points each. Young Mackin was having a big influence on the game and it was his ball which put Kristian Magill through on the goal, and the big full-forward made no mistake as he fired the ball low to the net to give his side a three-point advantage. Neil Paul Lennon followed this up with a point from a free before two points in a row saw Middletown reduce the deficit to just two, but late first-half points from Raymie Fitzpatrick and Neil Paul Lennon saw the Camlough side go into the half-time interval four to the good, 1 – 6 to 0 – 5.
The sides swapped points in the opening minutes of the second-half with Ciaran Mackin getting the Shane’s score before two pointed frees from Middletown left just two between. Middletown were slightly on top at this stage of the game but a long ball from Eamon McCabe found Raymie Fitzpatrick in acres of space and he powered down on goal before rifling a brilliant right foot shot to the roof of the net to put his five to the good. This was increased to six minutes later when Mackin fired over his fourth and his side’s eight point of the contest with fifteen minutes still left to play. The home side registered the next two points to keep them well in the game but Mark McCabe kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Shane’s with a well taken score. Middletown upped the tempo at this stage as they fought to get back into the game but the Shane’s defensive unit, which was excellent throughout the game, restricted them to just another single point and in fact it was the Shane’s who finished the game on top as Eamon McCabe popped over a last minute point to seal the win on a score-line of 2 – 10 to 0 – 11.
Middletown is always a tough place to go and get a result but the lads put in a good performance to claim a well-deserved win. Next up is a home game against Clan na Gael which is scheduled for next Saturday evening in Camlough.
Senior Ladies
Our senior ladies return to league action on Monday night at home to Mullaghbawn at 7.00pm.
U10s
Our young U10 team travelled to Drumgath on Saturday to take part in their blitz. Following three very competitive group games the Shane’s won through to the semi-final of the Shield tournament. In that semi-final they defeated the host club with Dara McGuinness scoring a goal with the last kick in normal time to send the game to extra-time. The Shane’s took control of the game during extra-time and went on to qualify for the final. Unfortunately for the Shane’s the semi-final took a lot of them, using up all their energy and they just ran out of steam as they lost out by a few scores. Congratulations to everyone involved on Saturday and it was a promising start for this young group of players – Frank, James, Niamh, Dara, Eddie, Kristin, Oliver, Charley Rose, Denis, Conor and Daithi.

Congratulations to our senior ladies’ manager Cathal Quinn and Clare McCabe who got married on Saturday. Everyone at the club would like to wish all the very best of luck for the future.
Féile Fund-Raising Events
With our U14 boy’s amalgamation of Patrick Rankins heading to the All-Ireland Féile at the end of June a number of fund-raising events have been organised over the coming weeks:
Bucket Collection: Friday 31st May in Camlough
Car Wash: Saturday 1st June in Correnshigo
Coffee Morning and Sponsored Walk: Sunday 2nd June in Shane O’Neill’s
Pub Quiz: Friday 14th June in The Dyke Inn, Poyntzpass
Mud Run and Rainbow Run
Sunday 16th June sees the club members and others taking part in a Mud Run. A Rainbow Run will take place later in the evening.
The Mud Run will take place in Castlewellan at 12.30pm and anyone wanting to take part can get sponsor forms for the event from Terence Feehan.
The Rainbow Run will take place at our club grounds on the same day at 4.00pm and will act as a fundraiser for our underage teams. Anyone wanting to take part in the Rainbow Run can get sponsor cards from Yasmin Mackin or at the weekly meeting on Monday.
After the Rainbow Run there will be a BBQ at the club and the bar will be open for refreshments. Everyone is in encouraged to get involved in either of the events, the Mud Run or the Rainbow Run - it will be a great day’s craic all round.
Cúl Camp
This year’s Kellogg’s Cúl Camp will take place at the club from Monday 15th July - Friday 19th July. Online registration for the camp is now open and anyone planning to attend should register online asap using the following link – www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 1, 7, 21 & 32. There were no jackpot winners and 2 x match three winners. The lotto jackpot is slowly but surely creeping up and now stands at £3,650.
