Senior Ladies
Our senior ladies maintained their unbeaten league run with a hard-fought four-point win over Mullaghbawn last Monday night. 2 – 9 to 3 – 2.
Mullaghbawn got off the best possible start, scoring their opening goal right from the throw-in but points from Geraldine McNally and Aoibheann Jones got the Shane’s back to within one. A goal from Aoibheann Jones put the Shane’s ahead for the first time and points from the returning Moya Feehan, Geraldine McNally and Aoibheann Jones extended the Shane’s advantage to five points. However, Mullaghbawn fired home their second goal of the contest just before half-time to trail by just two at the break, 1 – 5 to 2 – 0.

An early point from Moya Feehan got the Shane’s off to a good start in the second period with Geraldine McNally following up soon after with her sides second goal of the contest. Sorcha McDonnell tagged on two points in a row for the Shane’s to put them into an eight-point lead but Mullaghbawn hit 1 – 2 without reply to trail by just three. The away side tried their best to get back on level terms but the Shane’s defence held firm and a late Moya Feehan point sealed the win for the Shane’s, 2 – 9 to 3 – 2.
The girls return to action on Monday night at 8.00pm at home to Forkhill. They are also scheduled to play Lisummon on Friday night but this is subject to change.
Senior Men
Our senior men were scheduled to play Clan na Gael on Saturday evening but the game was postponed until a later. They return to action next Sunday at home to Middletown.
U14 Girls
Our U14 girls made the trip to Middletown last Monday for their latest league game. The girls played some great football on the night and ran out deserving winners but a couple of scores. They return to action on Monday night at home to Granemore at 6.45pm in the Championship.
U12 Boys
Our U12 boys teamed up with Correnshigo on Saturday to take part in the annual Newry Mitchells tournament. The group stages saw the lads up against Mayobridge (Co. Down), Eskra Emmets (Co. Tyrone), St Mary’s (Co. Louth), Robert Emmets (Co. Donegal) and St Colm’s (Co. Derry). The young lads play some great football to beat Robert Emmets, Eskra Emmets and Mayobridge but lost out to St Mary’s and St Colm’s, both by very narrow margins. After all the counting was complete and permutations worked out the Shane’s went through to the Shield quarter-final and a game against Termon from Donegal, and after a very tough encounter the lads had qualified for the semi-final. Dungiven Gaels were the opponents in the semi-final and unfortunately it proved to be a game too far for the Shane’s as the Derry side ran out winners by a couple of scores.
All in all, the lads played seven very competitive games over the course of the tournament and they can take great encouragement from their performances throughout.
Well done to all the young players and their management team for their efforts on Saturday and a big word of thanks to Newry Mitchells for the invite to another well-run tournament.
U12 Girls
The U12 girls have league game on Thursday night away to Clan na Gael.
All-Ireland Féile – Fundraising Events
Well done to everyone involved in this weekend’s fundraising events ahead of the Patrick Rankins trip to the All-Ireland Féile in Sligo at the end of month. A big word of thanks to all those who helped organise the activities, to all those who took part and to everyone who donated to any of the events. Despite the hard work it was a great weekends craic and that’s what it’s all about.
