A Cross Border Sports Directory was launched at Newry Arts Centre today. At the launch, Mayor Coleman Burns commented "This publication highlights the wealth in our region in Sporting opportunities and Facilities and it will provide a wonderful resource for people to discover activities available in the Newry and Mourne and Louth areas.
Sport has played a big part in most of our lives and is forming a significant part in the lives of our youth. We need to promote Sport as it impacts on every part of our lives health, fitness, and our overall well being. It also provides employment and encourages Tourism.
Publications like this are essential to the development and promotion of Sport. I would like to congratulate everyone involved especially the funders the Special European Union Programmes Body, Mr Noel Redmond Mr Dermot Russell Assistant Director of Community Services and Sport and Ms Nikki McAlinden the then Cross border Minority Sports Officer.
Mr Dermot Russell said that the world of sport was constantly evolving sporting organisations are becoming more accessible and inclusive. We at the Council hope to provide as much assistance as we can ' to help people achieve their full potential through Sport.. This Sports Directory is only a small part of providing this service, promoting the Clubs that have registered with us and making the general public aware of the facilities and activities that are available to them.
