Community groups and charity partners have officially launched this year's Bessbrook/Camlough Darkness into Light walk, with the event set to take place at 4:15am on Saturday 9 May at Derramore Woods, Bessbrook. Now in its seventh year, the walk has raised just under £100,000 to date in support of local charity PIPS Hope and Support.

The event is organised through a community partnership involving Carrickcruppen GAC, Croabh Rua, Shane O'Neills GAC, Camlough Community Association, Derramore Men's Shed and Camlough Sunrise Social, working alongside PIPS Hope and Support. The official launch took place at Derramore Woods and organisers and volunteers are encouraging the entire community to get involved.
Funds raised through the walk go directly towards supporting PIPS Hope and Support in delivering free, immediate crisis intervention services to individuals and families across the local area. All registration fees will be donated directly to the charity.
Bessbrook/Camlough Darkness into Light organiser Raymond Flynn said: "Darkness Into Light is a very special event for our community. It brings people together from all walks of life, united by a shared purpose. Whether that's remembering someone we've lost, supporting someone who may be struggling, or simply showing that no one has to face difficult times alone."
Flynn added: "Each year, the turnout reminds us of the strength of our community. Every person who takes part plays a role in raising awareness, breaking down stigma and supporting the vital work of PIPS Hope and Support. I would encourage everyone to come along, take part and be part of something truly meaningful."
Chief Executive of PIPS Hope and Support, Seamus McCabe, paid tribute to those behind the event. "We are incredibly grateful to the Bessbrook/Camlough Darkness into Light committee for their dedication and ongoing support. The work that goes into organising this event each year is significant, and it is truly appreciated by everyone at PIPS," he said.

McCabe added: "Events like Darkness into Light are so important. They bring communities together to support one another, to stand in solidarity, to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention, and to remember loved ones lost to suicide. The funds raised directly support our ability to continue providing free, immediate crisis intervention services to those who need them most."
Registration for this year's walk is now open at darknessintolight.ie. Members of the public are encouraged to take part, whether walking in memory of a loved one, in support of someone experiencing difficulties, or simply to stand alongside others in a show of support.
