A section of the Carlingford Lough Greenway is set to close for five weeks to facilitate works at Narrow Water Bridge.
Louth County Council has issued a formal notice of its intention to close a section of the popular route from 26 May 2026.
Under Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, the council plans to close the Greenway from a point 650 metres northwest of its junction with Local Road L7051 to a point 2.4 kilometres southeast of Victoria Lock. The closure will be in place to pedestrian and cyclist traffic at all times for a period of five weeks inclusive from Tuesday 26 May 2026.
During the closure, traffic will be maintained via Fathom Line, the R179 Newry Road and L7051. Northbound traffic will be diverted via L7051, along the R179 and Fathom Line to Victoria Lock, while southbound traffic will divert via Fathom Line and the R179, onto L7051 to the access point for the Greenway. Local access and emergency access will be maintained throughout.
Anyone wishing to object to the closure must lodge an objection in writing, with the envelope clearly marked "Road Closure Objection", to Senior Engineer John O'Hagan, Major Capital Projects & Infrastructure Delivery, County Hall, Millennium Centre, Dundalk, Co. Louth A91 KFW6. Objections can also be submitted via Louth County Council's Online Consultation Portal at consult.louthcoco.ie. The deadline for objections is 12 noon on Friday 8 May 2026.
