Write a commentThe local ‘Friends of Cuan Mhuire’ Group will hold their annual Street collection in Camlough this Saturday 7 November.
Since its formation in 1966 by Sr Consilio, Cuan Mhuire has treated over 75,000 people. It’s main objective is the rehabilitation of persons suffering from alcohol, gambling and substance abuse addictions.At any one time Cuan Mhuire has 600 people in treatment through its five residential centres, one which is based in Newry, throughout the country.
Niall McGinn one of the organisers of the annual collection in Camlough explained,
“Cuan Mhuire is a Charity and couldn’t continue its work without the wonderful generosity of families, communities and individuals. Sr Consilio and all involved with Cuan Mhuire really appreciate the support.
Local people have always been very supportive of the work of Cuan Mhuire and in particular our fundraising here locally. The current COVID-19 situation has been very challenging to everyone. Cuan Mhuire has managed to continue to provide its life changing services but like every Charity are finding the financial demands very tough”.
Pat McGinn who is involved with the ‘Friends of Cuan Mhuire’ added “Myself, Des Murphy Niall and Roy McDonald thank everyone for their support. Roy is participating in his annual Cuan Mhuire ‘Movember‘ fundraiser and anyone wishing to donate can do so through the Cuan Mhuire Newry Facebook Page”.
Des Murphy talking about collecting during the current pandemic situation said “We will be adhering to strict COVID-19 guidance procedures during our collection. If people feel comfortable they can stop to contribute, if not, there is no problem. We urge everyone at this challenging time to stay safe, keep your distance and help protect others”.
