Write a commentCouncillor Oonagh Magennis is warning motorists that use the Camlough Road in Newry that they should allow extra time for journeys from Monday 5 August.
Firmus Gas work will continue from Monday on the busy route.
The local Councillor said “Ongoing works by Firmus along the Camlough Road has caused delays, which whilst expected because of the volume of traffic using the road, none the less causes inconvenience and frustration”.
emmanouel V. from "Inconvenience due to traffic lights and the single lane might arise and I would encourage motorists and pedestrians using the stretch of road, to take this into account. It is also important to ensure that Firmus staff working on site can do so in safety”.
Cllr Magennis added “Works are going as to the planned programme and I have been assured that everything is on target to ensure the major scheme will be finished on time. I will continue to liaise with Firmus and encourage their operatives to endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum”.
Cllr Magennis plans to meet again with Firmus senior Engineers to trek progress and raise any issues that road users and residents may have.
