Work will start on the Newry City Linkages Public Realm Scheme along Buttercrane Quay & Merchants Quay from the start of October.
The scheme will comprise the replacement of the existing canal boundary wall with a new decorative maritime railing and the removal of car parking spaces on the canal-side to facilitate the provision of a new wider granite paved/kerbed pathway.
New decorative street lighting, street furniture, tree planting and public art is also proposed as part of the scheme.
As a result an open evening for traders and members of the public has been arranged for Thursday 26th September 2013 in Newry Town Hall Boardroom.
The Contractor and Consultants will be available from 6 pm – 8 pm to outline the proposed Street Works Programme.
It is planned that Traders and Residents will be notified when works are due to start within their sections of the Quay.
