Write a commentNewry Sinn Féin councillor Charlie Casey facilitated a meeting between Housing Executive and residents of Carnagat Park Newry last week following residents contacting him.
Speaking after the meeting Cllr Casey said “A number of residents of Carnagat Park contacted me in regarding a spate of anti social issues that have been happening in their area in recent times. The incidents highlighted were causing local people great concern. This particular area of Carnagat consists of people who have lived here most of their lives and is in fact a quiet part of the area. However, there have been a number of incidents which have caused those affected to say enough is enough. I am aware that the PSNI has had to be called on a number of occasions to deal with incidents which range from drug abuse to late night parties.
Councillor Casey continued “I have spoken to people and have heard at first hand the alarming issues that people have had to put up with which includes late night parties and drug abuse. Some of the residents of this area are elderly and they should not have to put up with this anti social activity. The local Housing Executive has given me an assurance that they will look into the issues raised and begin to deal with them. I would like to commend the local Community Association for their efforts in highlighting this and I look forward to working with them in the future to try and ensure that this problem is dealt with promptly and efficiently."
