Write a commentThree Ways Youth & Bosco Extended community groups have been successful in securing funding through the Neighbourhood Renewal Youth engagement programme to deliver an inter-commnity film project with the 9 Neighbourhood Renewal Groups and Bosco Youth in a follow up to the recently successful inter-community arts programme.
The Neighbourhood renewal Intercommunity Youth film project involves the making of three distinct films looking at key issues that impact on young people and the wider community. The issues include, Driving and being distracted, social media, bullying and planned fights and the final aspect is anti social behaviour with the emphasis on throwing stones at cars and other vehicles. The films when completed will be showcased in the Omniplex in March 2017.
The Chairperson of Newry Mourne and Down District Council Cllr Gillian Fitzpatrick along with Mrs Catherine Mc Inerney Deputy principal, Department for Communities were present at the launch of the film project.
Speaking the chairperson commended the young people involved and all the supporting agencies. She also paid tribute to the Threeways and Bosco youth projects for their work in the development of this project. Cllr Fitzpatrick also thanked the Department for Communities (DfC) for their continued financial and administrative support. She also commended her own Council officials and fellow councillors. Finally she paid tribute to the Neighbourhood Renewal (NR) partnership for their dedication and commitment as they help to deliver the NR investment programme and she wished the project every success.
Kaylem Mc Shane one of the participants on the project also thanked everyone for supporting young people to take ownership of the project. ‘As young people we are too often identified as a problem within our communities, but if we are given the right support we can become the solution to many problems’
Mr David Vint Assistant Director Southern Regional College (SRC) spoke of his admiration for all involved and in particular the young people who were helping to make the project a reality. He also commended his own staff within the media department in SRC. Mr Vint added that SRC is very much a community college and we have a very outward looking team who work closely with local communities to listen to their voice and deliver programmes that can make a real difference.
Mrs Geraldine Merendino the chairperson of The Newry Neighbourhood Renewal partnership added her thanks to the Department for Communities for their continued support to the Neighbourhood renewal investment programme. She also thanked all the partners involved in the project to include the Threeways and Bosco Youth projects, NM&DDC, SRC, and the Education Authority youth service, the PSNI, The Omniplex, the local community groups and the young people involved.
