Write a commentNewry, Mourne and Down District Council has awarded £1.24 million to fund 299 community and voluntary projects throughout the district through the Financial Assistance Programme and a second call for applications in specific categories is currently open.
The funding will be used to support the local delivery of an extensive range of community projects, from capital builds to summer schemes. This is the third year of the Financial Assistance Programme and local voluntary and community groups have applied for funding under the following themes; Major and Minor Events, Summer Schemes, Community and Sports Capital, Sports Development, Community Engagement, Arts and Culture, Down Your Street and Sports Feasibility Studies.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew welcomed the funding and said, “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council are very fortunate to have a thriving community and voluntary sector that makes our district a better place to live and work”.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chief Executive, Liam Hannaway said, “It is vital that the Council continues to provide support and assistance to our community and voluntary sector as they are the glue that holds our communities together. This is a testament to the commitment that the Council has towards our community and voluntary sector that the financial assistance budget has doubled from the previous year and we look forward to enjoying the many events and projects that will be delivered in the coming year”.
A second call for applications for financial assistance is currently open and is offering grants under the following themes; Christmas Illuminations and Events, Policing and Community Safety Partnership, and Good Relations.
This call will close on Tuesday 1 August and interested parties can obtain the application form from newrymournedown.org.
