Sinn Fein Councillor Daire Hughes from Cloghoge will go down in history as the last Mayor of Newry and Mourne and also the youngest after he was elected tonight to the top post.
Daire was co-opted on to the council in January after six Sinn Fein councillors resigned.

Daire tweeted "Delighted & honoured to be made final (and youngest) Mayor of Newry and Mourne. Busy year ahead!"
The Deputy Mayor is SDLP Councillor Brian Quinn from Ballymartin.
Fellow Sinn Fein councillor and previous Mayor, Mickey Ruane leaves after his year in the post and visited the Southern Area Hospice on Saturday for their Family Fun day as one of his last official engagements.
