As part of the all-Ireland ‘Stand out for Gaza’, healthcare workers at Daisy Hill will be holding a lunchtime vigil outside the main entrance to the hospital at 1pm this Thursday, October 16. A number of the staff at the hospital are also continuing their ‘Fast for Gaza’.
‘Stand Out for Gaza’ has been organised by Healthcare Workers for Ireland. This action, which calls for workers to stand outside their workplace during their lunch break and show their support for Palestine by holding a flag or placard, has been endorsed by trade unions throughout the island. Deirdre Murphy, Unison representative at Daisy Hill, said: “If people don’t have a placard or flag they can make a short video saying why they are protesting.”
“This is a collective initiative of workers in all fields around the island of Ireland and we encourage everyone to participate and show their support. It is now more important than ever to keep pressure on our governments to bring sustainable peace and justice to Palestinians in their own land and to make sure Israel is not allowed to resume its genocidal assault on the people of Gaza.”
