Newry City Councillor Cathal King has welcomed Minister Liz Kimmins to Killean Primary School to discuss the proposed introduction of a 20mph speed zone and much-needed upgrades at the growing rural school. The school is located on a narrow rural road with high volumes of traffic, and safety concerns have been consistently raised by parents, staff and residents.
Councillor King said he was pleased to welcome the Minister alongside his party colleague Dáire Hughes MP. "I agree with the assessments made during today's visit and the proposal to introduce a 20mph speed limit. This would be an important and necessary step in improving safety for everyone in the school community," he said.
The Councillor also praised the Minister's commitment to rural schools and communities. "I want to commend Minister Kimmins for taking the time to visit Killean and engage directly with the local community and the school. Her commitment to rural investment, equality and road safety is clear, and I welcome her continued focus on addressing the challenges facing schools like this one."
Councillor King added that Sinn Féin remains committed to supporting rural communities and delivering safe, well-resourced environments for children to learn and thrive.
