Write a commentDerrybeg Community Association have welcomed a commitment from the Housing Executive to follow up a request to maintain and enhance a local green area that has fallen into a state of neglect.
Commenting on the development Chairperson of Derrybeg Community Association Stephen Murney explained "I attended a site meeting on behalf of the community along with local community worker Anthony Coyle. Also present was Conor McCartan from the Housing Executive.
"We took Conor on a walkabout of the area and it's clear to see that the dumps area has been neglected in recent years.
Mr Murney added that residents had raised concerns about anti-social behaviour with groups of people gathering in the area and creating a nuisance to those who live nearby.
"This is unacceptable given that a number of elderly people residing in Main Avenue are also effected by this.
Mr Murney continued "Myself and Anthony proposed that the two alleyways leading to the dumps are gated. Residents would be provided with a key for access and the area would also be enhanced and maintained on a regular basis."
The community leader concluded "The gated alleyways would bring the area in line with other parts of the estate who already availed of the alley gate scheme several years ago.
"We are confident that the Housing Executive will follow through with our request as this will greatly benefit the area."
