Dromintee GAC is set to host the Henry McCrink Charity Challenge this Saturday, 23 May, with a day of sport and entertainment planned in memory of Henry who died in 2024. Funds raised will go to Friends of the Cancer Centre and the NI Blood Transfusion Service, two charities that were close to Henry and his family during his illness.
The charity day has been organised by Henry's family and friends and the wider Dromintee community, and follows two fundraising events held in recent weeks, a Charity Pool Challenge and a Golf Classic which reflected Henry's lifelong connection to sport and community life.
The main sporting element of the day gets under way at 2pm with a Minor Boys and Girls 7-a-side tournament, which will feature clubs from Ulster and beyond. Participating clubs include Dromintee, Kilmacud, Castleblayney, Middletown, Dungloe, Naomh Martin, Mullaghbawn and Carrickmacross.
As evening falls, entertainment will continue in both the club bar and a marquee, with live music from Who's Eddie, Tom O'Rourke, Fáinne, Kieran Larkin and Joe Kenny. A charity auction hosted by BBC presenter Connor Phillips will also take place, with prizes and experiences donated by local businesses and supporters.
There will be an auction on the night with items announced to date including a 2002 signed Cathal O’Rourke jersey, a beautifully framed caricature of the legendary 2002 Armagh team, a signed current Armagh team jersey and a signed Armagh Ladies team jersey.
Henry's wife Lisa paid tribute to those who have rallied around the family, saying: "The support shown to our family throughout all of this has been incredible. From volunteers and local businesses to clubs, schools, neighbours and friends, the kindness people have shown us has meant more than we can ever put into words."
