Dare Hughes, Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council held a reception last week at Council Offices for local primary and secondary school pupils whose posters have been picked to be used in the 2015 edition of the Council’s Schools’ Environmental Calendar.
Pupils were asked to design a colourful poster depicting an environmental theme of their choice. Forty three schools from across the District participated in the competition and after much deliberation by the judging panel thirteen posters were eventually chosen from the thousands of entries received. The winning posters, covering topics as diverse as Recycling and Waste, Dog Fouling and Litter, Biodiversity and Transport will now feature on the 2015 calendar which will be distributed to local schools free of charge.
Mayor Hughes, presenting the thirteen lucky winners with their prizes, told the pupils “I would like to congratulate you all on your great achievement of being chosen from the many entries received. This is the thirteenth edition of the calendar and also the last Newry and Mourne version as we will be joining with Down District Council next year to form a new, larger Council”
“I am confident your art work will ensure that the 2015 calendar is a colourful and eye catching publication and I look forward to seeing the completed calendar when it is produced in December” he added.
