Newry Leisure Centre Officially opens!

Even though it’s not open to the public till this time next month, today marked the 'official' opening of the much anticipated Newry Leisure Centre.

The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council welcomed fellow councillors, MP’s, MLA’s and members of staff for a guided tour to showcase the excellent range of facilities that will be available to cater for the residents of Newry city and much further beyond.

Speaking at the official opening the Mayor said “It is a great honour as the last Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council to officially open Newry City’s flagship development here at the Newry Leisure Centre. Today marks the date of a new and exciting chapter for the Leisure Centre staff and users. A vibrant and important vocal point in the heart of the City Centre. I am sure it will be a huge attraction for local citizens and visitors alike. There has been a lot of hard work and effort put in to get to this stage and on behalf of Newry and Mourne District Council I would like to sincerely thank each and every individual involved for their hard work and dedication and reiterate the long standing commitment to the pool’s successful future.”

The all encompassing range of features includes an 8 Lane main pool, leisure and teaching pool, a top of the range Health Suite, a flume and slide as well as a viewing gallery with Olympic standard seating. Newry Leisure Centre will compete with the best from around the province.

The emphasis is on participation for the entire family. Offering a friendly experience and providing an exciting new range of swim programmes catering for various levels of physical activity at an affordable price.

The recent interaction via a social media campaign has been phenomenal. Over 6,500 Likes were received within 48 hours of going live, which is an overwhelming indication of the publics excitement about the forthcoming opening celebrations.
