Rev Mervyn Kingston former Rector of Creggan Parish has passed away after a lengthy battle with Cancer.
Rev Kingston was Rector at Creggan from 1990 to 2003 and was held in extreme high regard not just by his Church of Ireland congregation but by the entire population. In difficult times he had no hesitation holding Ecumenical services at Creggan Parish Church for many years.
Born in 1947 a wonderful outline of his ministry can be found at http://cira.tees.ac.uk/stbarts/sermons/090628.pdf
In later years Rev Kingston co-founded Changing Attitude Ireland, a network of people, gay and heterosexual, lay and ordained, working for the full affirmation of lesbian and gay persons within the Churches in Ireland and indeed he tirelessly dedicated much his time to the organisation.
Mervyn died peacefully at home in North Down on Friday night and is survived by his partner Richard O'Leary.
The funeral will take place at 11am, tomorrow Tuesday 6th August, in Holy Trinity Church, Glencraig, Seahill, Craigavad, Holywood, BT18 0DA and interment will take place at Down Cathedral, Downpatrick, at 3pm.
