A full two weeks after Newry, Mourne and Down District Council were informed about a dead animal lying at one of their tourism facilities the remains still lie there.
The now badly decomposed carcase of a dead fox lies lodged under the open lock gate close to St Colman's College on Newry Canal in full view of anyone using the towpath.
A Newry.ie reader (name supplied) contacted us to say that they had emailed Customer Services at Council on 6 July to highlight the case.
Their message couldn't have been more descriptive or polite. "There is a dead fox on the town path behind St Colmans school in the old canal gate lock area . Please notify relevant department for removal. Thank you"
They got a phone call from council 3 days later to say that the remains would be lifted in the next day or two but that didn't happen.
Not giving up they contacted council again by email last Friday 17 July but their message bounced back to them with the message "The recipient's mailbox is full and can't accept messages now."
When Newry.ie visited the site this afternoon the carcase along with a smell was still there.
Newry.ie has contacted Council.
