A Newry author is just over 50 hours away from achieving his dream of turning the story of his book into a board game sold worldwide.
Garry McElherron's popular MourneQuest books based around the Mourne Mountains has been turned into a prototype Board Game by Backspindle Games and the project is presently on Kickstarter with a goal of £24K to be reached by Thursday night 7 June.
Players of MourneQuest assume the roles of the book's heroes and must journey in the Mourne Mountains to work together to defeat the evil Shimnavore before it is too late. On their quest they’ll encounter many enemies, including infuriating Bogbeans and terrifying Nightmares like the Banshee, the Changeling and the Dullahan. To triumph, heroes must gather charms, equipment and magical relics, to increase their powers and use their skills and combat abilities effectively.

At present 325 backers have pledged £22.594 so there is just over £1400 to be raised in the next 48 hours to make the project a reality. The project is listed as "All or nothing" which means it will only be funded if it reaches it's goal.
