Write a commentPIPS, the suicide and self-harm prevention charity, in conjunction with Newry Omniplex, hopes to raise much-needed funds with a screening of the Oscar-winning 1997 movie Good Will Hunting starring the late Robin Williams.
The movie will be shown at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 26th of August. Seats can be reserved by making a donation of £7 through the Omniplex site at www.omniplex.ie
Screenings will also occur simultaneously at 10 other cinemas in Northern Ireland, with proceeds going to PIPS charities and Zest in Derry~Londonderry, and another 11 Omniplex cinemas in the Republic, with donations going to Pieta House.
Seamus McCabe , Chief Executive of PIPS Newry & Mourne, said: "Suicide is a major public health issue. It is a devastating event, an individual tragedy and a loss for society. Its emotional and practical consequences are felt by family, carers and friends and often the wider community.
"It is fantastic that the Omniplex Group has identified with this and provided an excellent opportunity to raise funds and increase visibility for many of the suicide prevention charities in both Northern Ireland and the ROI.
"I would ask everyone who can to support us in Newry, or by attending a showing at their local Omniplex on August 26th, so that we can continue to help save the lives of our loved ones."
