Newry City Library celebrated it’s 30th Birthday today with visitors old and new calling in for a slice of cake and a cuppa.
Present Branch Manager Lilian Russell has been working in the library around 28 of those 30 years.
Visitors were shown a collection of photographs from the period of the library’s opening as well as a short film documenting Newry in the 80’s shown by Librarian, Chris Cassidy. The library in it’s present location on Hill Street opened on the 26th of January 1987.
The library was renovated in 2011 and has since gone from strength to strength with more choice than ever in books as well as a massive archive of local historical books and documents dating back to the 19th Century.
