Local MLA Karen McKevitt has given her support to the Marie Curie Daffodil appeal.

The charity is marking its 30th year this year and it  continues to provide a valuable service in Newry and Armagh.

Mrs McKevitt said: “The contribution that Marie Curie has made in Newry and Armagh is hard to overstate. Last year alone their work allowed 198 patients to stay in their own homes during their illness with Marie Curie nurses putting in 7,488 hours of work.

“The opportunity for a patient to remain in their own home can have a profound effect on both patient and their family. The fundraising and volunteer work is also significant in the pressure it takes off our own health services.

“The work of Marie Curie staff and their volunteers is fantastic and I encourage everyone to show their support for Marie Curie this year by visiting their shop on Hill Street in Newry or by getting behind this year’s campaign and wearing the daffodil available to buy at numerous outlets.
