1 CommentCouncil officials and members of the press today had a sneak preview of the new 21st century Newry Swimming Pool facilities at The Meadow in Newry.
The new 25m pool has an adjustable floor to alter the depth, catering for different sport scenarios. A slide flume is also part of the package and also a colourful childrens play area as well as a greatly enhanced steam room and sauna area with much more space than the present pool.
Changing areas are greatly enlarged and enhanced and changing facilities will be available for football teams using the pitches.
It’s hoped that the first phase of the Newry Leisure Centre (NLC) will open to the public on the 25th of April after over four weeks of staff training.
The old swimming pool opened in January 1971 and 44 years later Its planned to close it for good on the 21st/22nd of March and move the staff from the old pool to the new premises on the 23rd to start training.
