Councillors, Neighbourhood Watch coordinators, Voluntary groups and Statutory agencies came together for a unique ‘speed engagement forum’ on 11th December in Boardroom Monaghan Row. The evening also marked the 100th Neighbourhood Watch Scheme for the District.
Speaking at the event PCSP Chair Cllr. Andy Moffett congratulated those who attended noting “This event provided a unique opportunity for community representatives to engage with PSNI and other statutory agencies in relation to everyone’s respective responsibility for community safety in our district. I am also delighted to acknowledge the significant milestone of 100 Neighbourhood Watch Schemes for our District.”
PSNI Community Safety Sergeant, Wendy Walker added “The first Neighbourhood Watch Scheme was established in this District in March 2005, since then the schemes have grown from strength to strength culminating in this fantastic achievement of the 100th scheme. The schemes have proven over these years to be a very effective deterrent, tackling the fear of crime particularly for older and more vulnerable members of our society”.
The celebration and engagement forum was attended by Councillors, PSNI Neighbourhood and Response teams, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, Youth Justice Agency , Home Secure & Good Morning Good Neighbour, Newry Knights, Women’s Aid , Citizens Advice Bureau, Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators and local community representatives.
