A 27 year old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing incident in the Sandy's Street area of Newry in the early hours of this morning, Sunday the 8th of March.
She is currently in Police custody.
A man was stabbed during the incident which happened in a flat in the Sandy Street area on Sunday morning. It is understood a number of people where in the property at the time, the man was originally taken to Dasiy Hill Hospital in Newry , but has since been transferred to the Royal Victoria in Belfast .

Following the incident Sinn Féin Mickey Brady in a statement said "Knife crime appears now to be a regular feature within our society. I would make an appeal on two counts, firstly to those who would think of using knives - it solves nothing and is highly dangerous, and secondly those who use knives on our streets must realise the seriousness of their actions." The MLA called on anyone with information on this incident to bring it to the PSNI
Also commenting was SDLP Newry and Armagh MLA, Dominic Bradley, who expressed his shock following the stabbing
Mr Bradley said “I was very shocked to hear about this incident, which took place quite close to my constituency office in the Sandy Street area. Any level of knife crime is unacceptable and this stabbing has shaken the entire community.”
“I am sure the community will rally around the injured man and his family. I send him my best wishes and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.”
