IDAHOT was created in 2004 to draw the attention of policy makers, opinion leaders, social movements, the public and the media to the violence and discrimination experienced by  LGB&T people at home and internationally.

Since then the day has grown in both scope and depth.  Actions around the international day against homophobia and trasnsphobia  takes place the world over and those in the lgb&t community in Ireland partake in this event annually, to draw attention to the issue of homophobia and transphobia.

The Newry Rainbow Community in association with Changing Attitudes Ireland are once again hosting the night and all are welcome to attend.  If you haven't been before and are wondering what its all about then please do come along and see for yourselves.  You will have the chance to meet  some of the celebrants and the NRC afterwards in the community hall beside the Dominican Chapel, where some light refreshments will be on offer.

Other LGB&T organisations, Governments, Cities, Human rights organisations, Corporations and celebrities will organise events to demand attention from policy-makers and engage in lobbying activities.  The IDAHOT day provides a platform for everyone to make a powerful statement to demand improvements for the quality of life for LGB&T people.  It is a day to show that we are all free in life and that we only live once, to let the people that want to be different be happy in their lives if they so wish.

So if you are free and wish to join us for the service then please do come along on Tuesday 17th May at 8.15pm at the Dominican Chapel, Dominic Street.  Bring a friend also if you wish or a few friends, all will be welcomed.

For further information contact the NRC at 28a Monaghan Street Newry, 028 302 51673
