Write a commentTinyLife are looking for Local business’s to support a Dragon Boat Race at the Albert Basin in Newry on June 26th by entering a team and competing on the Canal for the TinyLife Dragon Boat Trophy.
Dragon Boat Races are a colourful Spectacle that will bring Newry Quays and the City to life all in aid of TinyLife. The City hasn’t seen the boats on the canal for over 10 years. Two Boats compete against each other over a distance of around 250 metres. Teamwork and fun are the key skills to bring on the day.
Dragonboat racing is an ideal teambuilding activity as it requires no previous experience and caters for all abilities.
A dragonboat is a long (40 ft) and narrow boat which can hold up to 20, comprising 18 paddlers in pairs facing towards the bow of the boat, 1 drummer at the bow facing towards the paddlers, and 1 steerer or helm at the rear of the boat.
The paddlers will be placed in pairs by the helm, depending on their size, etc. The drummer leads the paddlers throughout the race with the rhythmic beating of a drum to indicate the timing and frequency of paddling strokes.
We want you to be a part of this exciting event this June and would like you to sign up. There is capacity for up to 20 team members per boat, to maximise your team’s fundraising we would encourage you to fill the boat however you can race with a minimum of 12 which will not put your team at a disadvantage.
It’s just £15 per person to sign up and we ask that every team members raises £35 in sponsorship. The event itself will run from 11am – 4pm and every team member can receive lunch (included in the price). All you need to do is name your team and nominate a team captain and contact andrea@tinylife.org.uk with your details and a registration pack will be sent to you. Feel free to personalise your team – you can dress up or customise your t shirts.
