A number of Omeath residents travelled to the Marine Hotel, Dún Laoghaire this week to pick up their village's 2025 Tidy Towns award.
Omeath was awarded an Endeavour Award for the most improved entrant in County Louth as part of the SuperValu Tidy Towns - Midlands and East Regional Awards 2025.
The award was presented by Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll Mac Neill to members of the Omeath Tidy Towns group in recognition of the people and businesses who have collaborated as a community to work to improve their environment, foster civic pride and make Omeath a better place.
Omeath has returned to being a very popular place to visit in recent years, not least due to the sheer number of community based initiatives. These include lighting the village at Christmas, flower planting, litter picks, environmental projects and regular community events including Fright Fest at Halloween and walks in the stunning local countryside.
Public realm works around the lough shore and Station Road have also helped enhance the village for both locals and visitors, especially those walking and cycling. Additionally its location on the Carlingford Lough Greenway makes it the perfect place to stop for refreshments or something to eat.
