Detectives have appealed for information after a man was threatened and assaulted in an aggravated burglary in Newry. The incident began in the McClelland Park area on Sunday, 27 September and ended at a property in the Caulfield Place area of the city.
Detective Sergeant Emerson said a man in his 40s was approached by three unknown men armed with screwdrivers at approximately 9.15pm. The suspects, believed to be in their 20s, were all wearing dark clothing and threatened the man with the weapons.
The man was able to make off from the scene to a property in the Caulfield Place area of Newry. The three men chased after him, kicking the door of the property and threatening him again inside.
Detective Sergeant Emerson said: "He was assaulted by the men who punched him in the nose. They then rummaged through drawers and cupboards in a bedroom and made off with a phone and wallet containing a sum of cash."
The men then fled the scene and the victim was able to raise the alarm. "This was a terrifying and upsetting ordeal for the man who was left shocked by what happened," the detective said.
Anyone who was in the area last night and noticed anything suspicious is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference number 1404 27/09/26. Detective Sergeant Emerson also asked anyone living in the general area or nearby to review doorbell, CCTV or dash-cam footage.
