Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has opened applications for the Rural Business Development Grant Scheme 2026/27. The scheme offers capital investment support of up to £7,500 to eligible small businesses in the district.
The grant scheme is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs and administered by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council on the department's behalf. It is designed to help rural businesses invest in equipment and infrastructure that will improve productivity, enhance competitiveness and support long-term sustainability. Successful applicants will be required to provide a minimum of 50% match funding towards the total cost of their project.
Anyone wishing to apply must attend one of the compulsory Pre-Funding Workshops, which will be delivered both online and in person. Attendance is mandatory, and applications from individuals who have not attended a workshop will not be considered. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Thursday 30 July 2026.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Glyn Hanna, said rural businesses were at the heart of the local economy, creating jobs, supporting communities and driving economic growth. "This grant scheme offers a valuable opportunity for entrepreneurs and micro-businesses to invest in their future, improve their operations and strengthen their resilience in an increasingly competitive marketplace. I encourage all eligible businesses to attend a Pre-Funding Workshop and submit an application," Cllr Hanna said.
