The results of the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Environmental Poster Competition have been announced. Thirteen posters have been chosen from the thousands of entries received and will feature in the 2016 School's Environmental Calendar.

Sixty three schools from the district took part.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Naomi Bailie held a reception at the Downpatrick Council Offices, for the local primary and secondary school pupils whose posters were picked.

Chairperson Bailie, presenting the thirteen lucky winners with their prizes, told the pupils “I would like to congratulate you all on your great achievement of being chosen from the thousands of entries received in our poster competition. The first as a new Council. The standard has been very high once again this year and I look forward to seeing the completed calendar when it is produced in December.”

Cllr Bailie added, “The calendar is jointly funded by the Council’s Active and Healthy Communities Department, the Regulatory and Technical Services Department and the Corporate Planning and Policy Department as part of the Council’s environmental education awareness programme.” 

All 13 pupils received a specially framed copy each of their winning poster from Councillor Bailie as part of their prize. The winning pupils are: Eva Cumiskey, St Peter’s Primary School , Cloughreag; Luke McAleenan, Abbey CBS, Newry; Éadaoin Murphy, St Oliver’s Primary School, Carrickrovaddy; Enya O’Neill, Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch; Orla Quail, St Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel; Catherine Gorman, Ballyholland Primary School, Newry; Calum Polly, St Joseph’s Primary School, Strangford; Clara Cultra, St Mary’s High School, Downpatrick; Emma Leckey, St Patrick’s Primary School, Burrenreagh; Aaron Brookes, St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Newry; Jessica McCabe, St Brigid’s Primary School, Drumilly; Shannon McMullan, St Malachy’s High School, Castlewellan; Ellen Faloon, Mullaglass Primary School, Newry

The Calendar will be distributed to local schools free of charge.
