A section of the Carlingford Lough Greenway will be closed for six months from 1 September 2026 to facilitate works at the site of the Narrow Water bridge. Works continue at a pace and the fourth quarter of 2026 will see the installation of the bridges Fixed Span & Pylon sections. It's hoped that the new tourism facility would be substantially complete by the end of 2027 with it open in early 2028.
The Greenway will be closed to pedestrian and cyclist traffic at all times from Tuesday 1 September 2026 until Sunday 28 February 2027 from a point 650m Northwest of its junction with Local Road L7051 to a point 2.4km Southeast of Victoria Lock. It means that anyone travelling from Newry to Omeath and beyond will have to use the main Newry to Omeath road for a stretch. Motorists, Walkers and cyclists would be advised to take extra care when travelling on the busy road during the closure.
Louth County Council announced the Temporary road closure order yesterday.
Traffic will be routed via Fathom Line and R179 Newry Road and L7051 and local access and emergency access will be maintained.
