Last week Newry and Mourne Museum celebrated thirty years of operation since it was officially launched by the Chairman of Council, Councillor Pat Toner.

To help celebrate this milestone the Museum hosted a special birthday event ‘Life in a 16th Century Castle’; when costumed guides escorted families visiting the museum through Bagenal’s Castle to discover how it would have functioned 400 years ago.

The celebrations were rounded off with an official cake cutting attended by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane, staff and special guests.

Councillor Ruane commented, “I am delighted to attend this momentous occasion. The Museum has given so much to providing and preserving a record of local history and has contributed significantly to the tourism offering in the area. I wish the Museum every success for the future”.
