Going Once, Going Twice ... GONE!
Yesterdays Auction of the contents of the former bar and nightclub The Newsroom on The Mall in Newry marked the closing of a chapter in our city's socialising history.
Set over three floors with a fantastic glass frontage commanding great views over the Newry Canal and Clanrye River the interior was a no expenses spared feast on the eye.
A 15 foot mural of a glamorous lady vied for attention along with beautiful leather and suede seating and lit display panels of various historical or should that be hysterical characters!
Opening as it did in 2007/ 2008 it quickly looked like this "New kid on the block" was going to join the select list of movers and shakers in Newry's increasingly varied night time scene.

Sadly yesterday put paid to that for good as Auctioneer Stephen Fitzpatrick banged the hammer down on lots as diverse as an ironing board and iron for £7.50 to speakers for over £2000.
From the beautiful upholstered sofas to the massive gilded mirrors, from massive glass panels to coffee machines and from mirror balls to a garden shed, everything that was moveable had a price.
For whatever reason, whether it was the wrong time in history or it was just too big or too good for Newry we shall probably never know.
Now all that's left is the rose tinted memories in our possibly alcohol fueled brains and The Newsroom Website that is trapped forever in cyberspace as a homage to what might have been.
Will it's likes be ever seen again?
Newsroom RIP
