Write a commentLast month saw Warrenpoint Bowling Pavilion reopened following extensive refurbishment.
As part of the redevelopment, the pavilion was refurbished and upgraded and an extension was added. The extension includes new changing rooms, new fully fitted kitchen and a glass fronted viewing gallery, to enhance the experience for all those who use the facility.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin cut the ribbon and officially declared the pavilion open, joined with Warrenpoint Bowling Club members, President of the Northern Ireland Bowling Association, Jim McConville, Councillors and Council Sports Development staff to celebrate the new facility.
Councillor Mark Murnin said, “Encouraging people to Be Active and get involved in sport is a key objective for this Council and our Sports Facility Strategy. Sport plays an important role in helping to promote health and wellbeing of all our citizens and we are delighted to be able to provide superb facilities to enable them to do so.
“I also would want to commend Warrenpoint Bowling Club for playing an integral role in this successful project and I know that it will attract many people to use the redeveloped pavilion.”
The Council’s Sports Facility Strategy was completed in 2017 and looked at current sports facility provisions across the district, focusing on private, council and other public facilities. It identified the need for local sports facilities and provided a framework for the future prioritisation, development and provision of sports facilities at a local level, to meet identified community needs.
