Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has moved this year’s Warrenpoint Municipal Park Summer Season of events for children and families online for the first time due to the impact of COVID-19. The week-long virtual programme of events will run from today, Friday 21 August to Sunday 2 September and was officially launched today by the Council Chairperson Councillor Laura Devlin.
Council staff have been working with a range of local artists and performers to bring this online programme to fruition. The Children’s Summer Season kicks off with a Punch and Judy Show recorded live on the iconic bandstand within the park. Throughout the week-long events programme renowned storyteller Liz Weir will entertain children with a daily video story to keep their imaginations active and engaged during the summer holidays.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Laura Devlin said, “I am delighted that Warrenpoint Municipal Park is hosting a virtual programme of children’s events and on behalf of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and National Lottery Heritage fund, I extend a virtual warm welcome to you."
Virtual visitors to the Council’s YouTube channel can explore the programme daily and will still feel involved and included within their local community. A new video story will be shared every day until the 2 September across the Council’s social media platforms. The summer season programme is completely free for children, young people and families to access across the district.
