Detectives from Newry Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigating a breach of anonymity concerning the ongoing court case involving Jeffrey Donaldson have charged a woman to court.
The case took place in Newry Courthouse in May and June with Donaldson found guilty on all 18 charges including one count of rape. He has since launched an appeal against the verdict.
The 55-year-old woman was arrested in the Ballynahinch area on Tuesday 28th July, and has been charged with a breach of a lifetime ban on reporting the identity of alleged victim/s in the case.
She is due to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24th August with the charge reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Detectives have taken the opportunity to remind people that naming or alluding to victims in cases such as this, may result in arrest, and subsequent charge to court.
