This Autumn award-winning Belfast-based children’s theatre company Cahoots NI will present a brand new show adapted from the picture book ‘Duck, Death and the Tulip’ written by the award-winning author Wolf Erlbruch. The Newry performances hosted by Newry and Mourne District Council form part of the Sticky Fingers Arts For Young Children Festival 2013.
“Who are you? Why are you creeping along behind me?”
“Good. You’ve finally noticed me,” said Death. “I am Death.”
Duck was scared stiff. You could hardly blame her for that….
The production will tackle the topical and often taboo subject of death, in a strangely heart-warming story, a duck strikes up an unlikely friendship with Death....This simple, unusual, warm and witty story deals with the difficult subject matter of death in a way that is elegant, straightforward, and thought-provoking.
After the success of Cahoots NI’s production Egg, which dealt with the early stages of life and the transition from childhood to adulthood, this new show explores the experience of loss in the same engaging and thoughtful way.
Cahoots NI Artistic Director Paul McEneaney comments ‘I was immediately struck by the life affirming tone of Erlbruch’s story book. He deals with the difficult theme of death with warmth and ease. Life and death are presented as close friends, where one cannot exist without the other in the natural cycle of life. I am very excited to be able to bring this wonderful book to life on stage for families across Northern Ireland this Autumn.’
The show features originally composed live music, illusion, dance and, above all….magic, brought to you by the same winning combination that brought Egg to the London stage, including: Director, Paul McEneaney, Choreographer, Muirna Bloomer, and Composer, Garth Mc Conaghie and Costume design by Gemma Porter.
