The annual Newry Pride will take place on Saturday 22 August, with the parade setting off from Newry Leisure Centre at 1pm. Groups and clubs who wish to take part can still register online.
The parade route will travel down Monaghan Street onto Merchants Quay and around Sugar Island, finishing at Marcus Square in Hill Street, where a Party in the Square will take place throughout the day. Performers will include Blu Hydrangea, George Heuston, Susi Pagel and Newry's own rising rock band Ashgrove, alongside family friendly entertainment including craft corners, circus acts and face painters, as well as information stalls from some of the north's biggest LGBTQ+ organisations.
An official after-party will follow at The Whistlin' Donkey from 7.30pm, featuring a cabaret show with drag kings and queens, burlesque and more. Tickets are available now through Eventbrite.
A number of other events will run throughout the day on 22 August. Live bands will play at the Bookshelf from midday to 4pm, followed by The Wolf Is In performing at Magees bar from 5pm to 6pm. Miss Auntie Marie's Brutal Bingo Show will take place in Bellinis from 6pm to 8.30pm, while an alternative after-party will be held in Nan Rices, headlined by Jetvaine with support from Blurs on Polaroids, Mosi and Animal Animal. Ginger Janes will also host a Pride Party from 8pm featuring DJ Eadzo and a rodeo bull.
Several events will also take place in the lead up to Newry Pride. A Pride Movie Night screening Priscilla Queen of the Desert will be held at Ballybot House on 12 August from 7pm to 9pm, followed by cLiterature Night at Finegan & Sons on 14 August from 7.30pm. A Park Run for Pride will take place on the Newry Greenway on 15 August at 9.30am, with a discussion on the Bill of Rights hosted by the Human Rights Consortium at Ballybot House on 18 August. Tenx9 conversations will also take place in The Little Merchant, Bellinis on 21 August.
