Newry Musical Society is hosting “The Great American Songbook” on Friday 18th October in the Renaissance Suite, Bellinis, Newry.
The concert is a cabaret style concert sandwiched between an American-themed meal.
Sometimes referred to as America's own classical music, the Songbook expresses the style, glitz and ritz of America in the first half of the Twentieth Century. Featuring music by Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter and Duke Ellington and popular songs like I Got Rhythm, Puttin' On The Ritz, Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy Of Company B, Every Time We Say Goodbye.
The concert will feature a first rate cast of singers as solos, duets, trios and, of course, a lively chorus to present the melodies, rhythms and shimmering excitement of these immortal melodies.
The evening will be split into two 40 minute performances with a beautiful 3 course meal between acts. The delicious menu, specially created for the occasion by Bellinis’ staff, includes a number of American style options such as shrimp Waldorf salad, roast beef and horseradish sauce and choc chip cookies and ice-cream.
