Newry Chamber Music have launched a Fund It Campaign to raise funds to help them bring more world class performers to Newry.
Newry Chamber Music was set up by Joanne and David Quigley in 2005 with the intention of bringing world class concerts to their home town and seven years later they have welcomed artists from Ireland, UK, Italy, Sweden, Mexico, USA, Russia and France to our City.
Many of their supporters have signed up to a Friends Scheme, without which they would not exist. Friends of Newry Chamber Music gives them the vital injection of funds at the beginning of a season to get going and NCM are hugely indebted to them. Until recently they were also generously funded by a local businessman.
Spokesperson for Newry Chamber Music Joanne Quigley added "It is our aim to dismantle the notion that classical music is elitist and something to be enjoyed by only a few informed enthusiasts. Our concerts are presented in a more relaxed manner . We introduce ourselves, the music, and like to talk a bit about the historical context of the piece - what or who inspired the composer, what to listen out for or, if it is a song in a foreign language, what the words mean! We also present carefully thought out programmes making sure there is something for everyone to enjoy."
"We are passionate about music education and encouraging the artists and audiences of the future. Every year we have a Young Artists Concert giving a platform to the cream of Young Irish Musicians. It is very difficult for young artists to get a foot on the ladder and we are delighted to be able to help. We have also recently run a very successful education project with a local primary school (in fact our old school) culminating in a concert where 20 young string players performed 3 pieces we wrote together during one of our main concerts. The kids were so excited to be performing with professional musicians and it was quite amazing to witness their development over the course of a few weeks."
All help through Fund It will ensure that they can continue this fantastic work and deliver three extremely exciting concerts during Autumn 2013. They have already secured the Artists who will perform and they include, The Vanbrugh Quartet and International Soprano Ailish Tynan, on her first visit to Newry!
All money raised on Fund it will help towards artists fees, hall hire, publicity costs and occasional piano hire, if needed.
All other work involved in the production of a concert is done as a labour of love by Newry Chamber Music and their dedicated friends and family who believe in our mission and wish to see the continuation of international quality classical music concerts in the Newry and Mourne area.
Joanne concluded "We believe that Newry is a special area and deserves a world class concert series. In addition, due to the standard of our concerts, we attract visitors from Belfast, Dublin and everywhere in between to our vibrant city. With your help, we can keep NCM alive!"
Already they have raised nearly £700 of the £5000 target and the Campaign lasts for another 29 days.
