Cathal Austin, Manager, The Quays Shopping and Leisure looking forward to the 2014 Newry Drama Festival with Committee Members from left: Christine Farrelly, Hon Treasurer; Maureen Grant, Public Relations Officer; Gerald McNulty, Chairman and Eileen Mooney, Hon Secretary. This year's  Newry Drama Festival really will be bigger and better than ever with the event being extended to an unprecedented ten nights to cater for the exceptional number of entries for the March Event.

The Festival will run at Newry Town Hall from Thursday the 20th of March to Saturday the 29th of March 2014.

The committee received sixteen entrants from the "creme de la creme" of Amateur Dramatic Societies throughout the island and after lengthy deliberations it was agreed to extend the normally nine night festival for an extra night to facilitate one more drama group.

This year's Programme is mainly comedy and should provide many nights of fun and light entertainment to festival goers.

Newpoint Players represent the local hope with a new adaptation of Frankenstein.

With neither last years winner the Silken Thomas Players or runners up, Ballyduff Drama Group taking part the competition is wide open.

Michael O'Hara is this years adjudicator. He last adjudicated the Festival in 2008 and audiences will recall his enlightening and entertaining public adjudications.

Season Ticket price is unchanged from last year even though an extra play is on offer so the £40 cost is indeed a bargain!

The Quays will sponsor the Festival this year again. Cathal Austin, Manager, The Quays said “The Fact that the Festival has been extended to run for ten nights instead of nine due to the influx of entries, bodes well for the Amateur Drama Movement North and South of the Border” He continued “On behalf of the Quays Management I would like to say that we are very pleased to be associated with Newry Drama Festival”

Festival Chairman, Gerry McNulty expressed his sincere thanks to Cathal for the financial and moral support received from the Quays.
